General Contractor Fleet FAQ

What general contractor contractors ask us before the first order.

What does a general contractor fleet usually look like?

Mixed. Most GC fleets run a combination of pickups for supervisors and crew transport, vans for tools and materials, and at least one chassis cab or heavier truck for hauling. We spec them together so the fleet works as a set rather than as a series of one-off purchases.

F-150 or Super Duty for a contractor fleet?

Payload and towing decide it. The F-150 covers most supervisor and light crew duty at lower running cost; Super Duty is the answer once you are consistently loaded or towing. Our comparison of F-150 vs Super Duty for trade fleets works through the real numbers.

What upfits do you coordinate for GC fleets?

Custom tool and equipment racks, lockable toolboxes, bed liners and weather protection, and van shelving. For heavier work, service bodies, flatbeds and stake beds on Super Duty chassis. All coordinated with the chassis order and delivered on one invoice.

Can you handle a mixed order of pickups, vans and chassis cabs?

That is the normal case, not the hard one. One point of contact runs the whole order — chassis, upfits, registration and delivery — so you are not coordinating between a dealer and multiple body shops yourself.

How do I keep tools from being stolen off the trucks?

Lockable storage and the right body choice do most of the work, and where you park matters as much as what you fit. We wrote up the practical options in preventing tool theft from work trucks.
